Whale Watching

South Africa’s south west coast is one of the best destinations worldwide for watching marine mammals. Whale watching in particular can be done from land or from boat from most locations in and around Hermanus. This once small fishing town provides spectacular annual visits from Southern Right and Humpback Whales and enormous pods of dolphins year-round. The southern right's breeding ground is the sheltered bays of the Western Cape coast, such as Hermanus and Gansbaai.

These majestic animals spend up to five months a year in South African waters as they pass their time playing, courting, and nursing their newborn calves, providing spectacular land-based viewing for all visitors. June to November usually is the best time of the year for watching the Southern Right Whale in the Cape south coast’s waters.  The annual Whale festival takes place in Hermanus usually during September. Winelands Experience offers travellers, interested in experiences like these, an option to visit Hermanus and Gansbaai. Please contact us for further details and offerings.
